Key Factors to Prioritize When Choosing a Career
- Working Genius | Assess how well a career aligns with your natural talents and preferred ways of working. The Working Genius framework highlights six types of contributions (Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity). Identifying which areas energize you can help ensure your career path leverages your strengths and minimizes prolonged frustration.
- Location | Consider where you would like to live and work long term. Do you have a specific geographic preference, or are you open to relocating and being flexible with opportunities?
- Work Environment | Reflect on the type of setting that best suits you. Would you prefer an office-based role, outdoor work, or a hybrid arrangement? Do you thrive in highly collaborative teams, or do you prefer working independently?
- Schedule | Evaluate what kind of work schedule aligns with your lifestyle and personal commitments. Options may include a traditional 40-hour work week, shift-based schedules, or rotational patterns such as two weeks on, two weeks off.
- Compensation and Lifestyle Goals | Determine the income level required to support your desired lifestyle. Consider the type of home, vehicle, travel opportunities, and hobbies you wish to pursue, and assess what level of compensation will make these goals achievable.
